CHIARENZA MARCELLO

Marcello Chiarenza was born in Sicily in 1955. A graduate in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, he is a versatile artist: sculptor, painter, set designer, playwright, and theater director. Chiarenza works within symbolic figuration and the dramaturgy of celebration, engaging in installations, figurative pathways both indoors and outdoors, and theatrical and public square productions. His theatrical works have been performed throughout Italy, as well as in France, England, Switzerland, Belgium, and Spain.
Chiarenza’s eclectic sensibility gives his sculptures a sense of lightness while simultaneously imbuing them with rich symbolism, drawn from the imagery preserved by the passage of time, spiritual memory, the history of religions, and psychology. The archetypes he portrays bring forth myths and fairy tales from an immortal language that continues to speak to us through the forms of symbols.
